Most of our modern-day city apartments come
with very few privileges (and space!). In homes that were available back in the
day, like about two or three decades ago, we would fancy having an outdoor
area, a garage to park our cars, a park that was common to everyone in the building
and huge balconies and terraces attached. If you are a homeowner that has a
balcony at home, count your blessings and make the most of it. These 8 awesome ideas to amp up your
balconies will speak volumes for your balconies and give them the makeover they
deserve to have!
1. Redo the wall paint: This one is the easiest way to give your balconies an instant
makeover. All you need to do is to change the wall paint of your balcony to
achieve a totally different look and feel for your space. Go with the colour of
your choice and play around a little if you like to experiment. Even better,
you can even draw a wall mural if you have an artist hidden inside you!
2.
Add cushions and other
decor accents: If you're someone who wants to make
smaller changes here and there without really having to move mountains then
this idea is perfect for you. Sometimes little things make the most difference.
So, add in a few decor items like frames, wall hangings or even a fancy
overhead light to change it up a bit. You can also upholster the existing
chairs or sofas that are placed in your balconies and change the pillow covers
to brighter colours to add that pop to your balconies.
3.
Update the flooring of
your balcony: Refurbishing the flooring of your
balconies can dramatically change the look and feel of the balcony. You could
either install faux grass or rugs or add decking to the floors or then just
simply change the floor
tiles and install new, unique looking tiles. This is definitely a game
changer in how your balcony looks.
4.
Add foliage: Barely we may have seen a balcony that does not have any plants in
it. Some foliage in your balcony enhances the look of the balconies and is also
very pleasing to the eyes and the mind. If there is limited space, then hanging
around a few plants is a great idea. You can also install a wall mounted system
to hold dome planters. A small point to note-buy plants only after assessing
the amount of sunlight coming in your balconies, else you may end up buying the
wrong kind of plants that may not flourish.
5.
Redecorate the wall
spaces: There are so many ways in which you can
decorate the wall spaces. You can create a wall where you have a system of
plug-in plant pots that will make the wall look like an accent
wall that grows plants on it. Another way to redo your walls is to add some
lighting on the walls and add some wall decor on it to make it look like a
‘highlight’ wall. You can also add some curtains on the walls to give it a
homely feel and make it look like the perfect extension to your home.
6.
Install fencing: Installing fencing is another brilliant idea to create a cosy
corner for yourself, which is not your bedroom. Not to mention that it will
also add privacy to the balcony space and all those eyes can stay away from
peeping into your balconies. It also will enhance the overall aesthetic of your
spaces.
7.
Let there be light: Yet another easy way to amplify the cosiness and the ambience of
the balcony is to add lights. They not only make the balcony look great but
also add to the functionality in the evenings once the sun sets. You can find a
variety of options in the market. From string lights to lanterns, from wall
mounted lamp shades to LED ceiling lights, you can choose to have lighting that
suits your taste and preference.
8.
Play around with the
furniture: A lot of the balconies today might have
limited space. In that case, less is more is the mantra that would work the
best. You can consider having low seating with light chairs that don't clutter
the area much. You can also choose to customise the furniture per your
requisites.
Remodelling balconies could get tricky and
it may seem like a mission you can't accomplish. But thanks to the vast access
that we have on the internet, it doesn't turn out to be as difficult as it
seems. If you still feel like this is not enough, then it is always best to
bring an expert on board who can design the balcony for you as per your
requirements!
